AiroOxy Fingertip Pulse Oximeter

A pulse oximeter is a medical device placed on the fingertip that uses infrared light to determine an individual's heart rate and blood oxygen saturation without needing a blood sample.

The oximeter displays the reading result on the screen as numbers that reflect the saturation of the individual's red blood cells with oxygen and their pulse rate. The oxygen saturation level is abbreviated as SpO2 and presented as a percentage. Pulse or heart rate is abbreviated to PR. For healthy individuals, oxygen saturation values are between 95% and 100%.

This device is unsuitable for children younger than 1 year of age, as it has yet to be validated for accuracy in this age group. 

Individuals most at risk of suffering complications from low blood oxygen saturation include those with pre-existing lung disease, those who are overweight and those who suffer heart disease, especially if they are active smokers.

Medical uses of oximetry include monitoring of blood oxygen levels:
•    in assessing the effects of new lung treatment(s) on patients
•    In monitoring anaemia status
•    in various respiratory conditions, including sleep apnea, viral respiratory infections, bronchiolitis, lung cancer, asthma, home oxygen therapy management, etc. to identify individuals who require respiratory support.
